Audrey has worked at Safeway for 35 years and is a member of UFCW. During the pandemic, she and her coworkers have helped people in her community put food on the table while ensuring a safe store environment for shoppers.
Having a union has been crucial for getting the safety equipment she and her coworkers have needed as well as advocating for hazard pay. She knows that keeping workers safe and supported is what’s best for customers too. But she’s seen too many coworkers struggle to put food on their own tables and fight for continued safety protocols that are needed to keep workers and customers safe.
As a member of the Essential Workers Council, Audrey is excited to demand a voice for workers in the policies that affect their lives and communities. She hopes decision-makers will pay attention to what workers are saying and experiencing, and make sure policies will work for those who are keeping our communities running.
Audrey lives in San Jose with her husband and two sons.
