Ever since moving to the Bay Area from the Philippines over 30 years ago, Ramil has worked in the hospitality industry as a guest services representative at the Marriott and the Fairmont hotels. He is a proud member of Unite Here local 19, and he’s dedicated his career to welcoming visitors to the Bay Area to ensure they have a safe, comfortable and enjoyable stay.
During the pandemic, Ramil and his coworkers were the ones keeping their workplaces running smoothly and customers safe. But when hotels closed due to the pandemic, Ramil and thousands of other hotel workers lost their jobs.
Ramil has been working with the Santa Clara County CARES (Community Assistance with Resources, Education, and Support) team bringing critical health resources and information directly to residents and small business owners so they can keep their families, workers, and customers safe.
Ramil loves his job as a health outreach worker but can’t wait to get back to his career in the hotel industry. That’s why he’s supporting the Return Together policy in San Jose that would ensure thousands of hospitality workers who have lost their jobs during the pandemic will have the right to return to work once it’s safe for hotels to re-open.
As a member of the Essential Workers Council, Ramil is excited to advance policies protecting workers in other industries to ensure that the people who keep our communities running have the protections and rights they need to take care of their families.
Ramil lives in Milpitas with his sister and two kids.
